People to Know: Nayeem Chowdhury,

Who do you know that can connect you to anyone in the Oil & Gas industry? Here is a not so subtle hint, Nayeem Chowdhury. Who would have guessed that one day a young man from Sugar Land, TX and the son of Bangladeshi immigrants would be sitting atop the recruiting perch of the Oil & Gas industry?

Nayeem Chowdhury might as well have crude oil in his blood. His father Harun Ar-Rashid Chowdhury, has been in the Oil & Gas industry for over 30 years as a Senior Process Engineer for major EPC players Bechtel, Jacobs, Mustang Engineering, KBR and most recently Aker Solutions.

The elder Chowdhury also holds an MS from Columbia University in NY and is a first class undergrad from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.

With a boost from his solid pedigree, Nayeem is one of those transcending characters who draws in the most respected professionals and engages them with a faultless win-win scenario each time. I honestly think your career growth can be at a disadvantage if you don’t at least have one person like Mr. Chowdhury in your network.

What’s with the hype job John Sanders? Look, I have no qualms giving credit where credit is due. The NBA has their Jordan, Oil & Gas has its Chowdhury.

Keep in mind; I am no stranger to top flight professionals. In my line of work I meet some of the most interesting and accomplished folks out there. For example, I recently had lunch with another fellow from a large Oil & Gas company here in Houston. He is single handedly responsible for over half a billion in revenue for that company.

How many of us can say we generate more revenue than the GDP of a country? I know I can’t!

That is why I decided to add a “People to Know” section to my blog. I won’t just recommend anyone to you. The people I suggest you connect to have to have demonstrated a track record of doing something truly incredible. In Nayeem’s case, he has connected more people to top jobs than anyone I know.

So who is Nayeem Chowdhury and what is he up to these days? He is the “Recruiting Manager, America’s”, for the $12b Oil & Gas division of one of the world’s largest conglomerates. But before he became the Recruiting Manager of the America’s, he was the most networked person in the industry. And those connections led him to a highly coveted role in a very tight niche market.

This is the era of social networking and quick links to people’s profiles. Anyone can be connected right? I suppose you can look at it that way. But in my rule book, that’s not being connected. If you are not engaging the people you know and not adding value in their lives, then those connections are as good as unsharpened pencils.

But people like Nayeem take the time to cultivate those relationships and truly extend a helping hand to anyone within his capability to help. I know that he has helped me tremendously and continues to be an asset in my life. So it’s only fair that I introduce you to him.
